Every day brings a new opportunity to save a Rottweiler's life or help find their perfect PERMANENT family, irrespective of the "shape" of that family's structure. Naturally any undertaking involving dozens of animals takes a tremendous amount of energy, time, money and effort to keep everybody happy, healthy and with wagging tails Irrespective of boiling hot weather or frigid winter storms the need continues for shelter, food,
running water. Those are the obvious things that any human owned by a dog is well familiar with, with us, it's just multiplied.
In our disposable society Rottweilers are surrendered to us because their owners are moving or going on vacation, other companions are tossed aside or abandoned because of inconvenience or perhaps new carpet is more important than a loving, breathing, living companion.
Beautiful Rottweilers come to us from everywhere, some are snatched from the cruel fate of slaughter at our "shelters" others are retired K9 Officers, many are surrendered by owners who care enough not to dump them, others are accidentally found, by some compassionate person, nearly starved and tied to trees, some are even left inside the home while they watched their "owners" pack their belongings and move, tossing their key to a neighbor for them to take care of, indifferent to the outcome of the living creature that depended on them...and loved them.
Rotties have come to us from several different states and Canada and in many pathetic conditions, not only physically but with crushed spirits. Many are with us for a year or longer, especially if they aren't the classical beauty, or a little older or perhaps with a health challenge or two. Far too many have been physically beaten or otherwise traumatized and need time to mellow out, learn to trust again and find their playful spirits before they find their homes.
A true volunteer rescue, like ours, is possible ONLY because of the tremendous out pouring of kind hearted people with generous spirits and a willingness and NEED to be involved and contribute some part of themselves, their energies, time, creative spirits, ideas or other helpful contributions.. So many people participate in the totality of a volunteer rescue and make saving lives possible. Everyone who adopts, rather than buys, is doing their part to change the concept of "ownership" to that of a "companion", every adopted Rottweiler is afforded the opportunity of becoming a
goodwill Ambassador for the breed and helps dispell the dangerous myth that all Rottweilers are dangerous.
We're grateful for the often faceless volunteers, people we've never met that are willing to drive a leg of a journey carrying a strange, large, frightened animal one step closer to his temporary destination with us. People spending their time, using their vehicle, spending money for gas and they do it all out of compassion and a caring attitude. It truly takes a TEAM to rescue. We're grateful for folks working in shelters that recognize that every life they save is worthy of their extra efforts and will contact us or someone who eventually connects with us and the
rescue process begins rolling. Our gratitude is boundless for the other breed or all breed rescue individuals that argue, fight, and tirelessly negotiate with irrational, selfish people that should surrender their animals for lack of care, over breeding, or other dismal conditions. Often these "negotiations" can take months where everything is a GO, dozens of volunteers are lined up, dates are set everyone's plans are centered on THAT transport day only to have it collapse at the last second because the owner killed the dog, or turned him into a shelter or changed their
minds; whenever possible the negotiations and rescheduling begins anew.
As Happy Tails Rescue Association grows, our TEAM is growing, people suggest ideas or help implement ones that will help and contribute, whether it's a one time or continued effort, we feel blessed to have met so many compassionate, exceptionally kind and generous people who are willing to participate in whatever manner possible...and then there are those that do it again, and again and again who deserve a FOUR PAWS AWARDS.... Small amounts of financial aid and efforts add up quickly, we ask you to open your heart and mind toward helping with our efforts and the goal that there will be NO HOMELESS
Rottweilers within a 500 mile radius from Happy Tails Rescue Association. Our long range goals include a large acreage Rescue & Sanctuary and we have every confidence that it will one day be a reality..
Our Four Paw Awards Are listed randomly until we have a better way of mentioning those guardian angels that deserve the highest humanitarian award, those who have shown continued compassion without the tiresome and
shortsighted "what's in it for me" perspective
Michelle Lowry & Mike Kind hearted financial contributions and TONS of Dog Biscuits, food, love and energy! Happy Tails is blessed to have these good people in their lives, without them many senior Rotts would have been killed. Instead Mike & Michelle, just invite one more elder Rott into their hearts and homes where they are spoiled and loved to their last breath. Michelle is particularly gifted at rounding
up emergency dog food when we really, REALLY are running low. Michelle and Mike also helped with 3 winter transports to Canada when we rescued 12 filthy, starving, unsocialized Rotts out of British Columbia. Mike & Michelle are proud to share their home with multiple dogs, so if you think you're alone, you're not.
Liz & Ken, Caldwell, Id Another multiple Rott family that share their home. Gosh, most of the Idaho Rotts come because Liz and Ken have found them first and help network to get them into rescue. How many times Liz and Ken have driven from Idaho and met us along the way to deliver dozens of buckets, blankets and othe provisions. Liz even came and helped take photos one time, that was a hot, dusty ordeal, and I'm sure she could have been doing many other things, we are very grateful for their continued help and support.

They have saved thousands of animals and gotten them to rescues or adopted. They have helped identifying suitable Rotties for us, and donations of leashes, bowls, dog houses and lots and lots and lots of dog food! If we ever have an emergency Bill & Elly are there. Elly and her daughter
even drove to Canada for us, during the winter to help transport some very deserving Rotts to us. Even soliciting Bill's brother to deliver all the way to Goldendale to deliver dog food on my doorstep! Also rounding up dog bowls, dishes, leashes and several wonderful, much needed dog houses, and truck loads of food!
Dandelion Dogs Forks Wa ~ Physically isolated location has helped Judy appreciate the efforts associated with providing sufficient food for her rescued animals. Judy has graciously shared her food resources with us and pointed us in the right direction to obtain our own. Her native artwork is in high demand, yet her heart has time to help many.
Tudor & Camelia Hison, Oregon Very considerate and thoughtful folks who share their lives with one of the former tagged "dangerous Rottweilers" scheduled to die, even the toddler next door thinks dangerous means giving lots of kisses! to all of our kids, not even to mention occasional beds, and Santa Steve is amazing at Christmas, all the toys that he comes us with is incredible....NOTE: Effective 2008 PETCO has new ownership and donations to 63 rescues and shelters in the Pacific Northwest stopped completely. Still, we are eternally grateful for their former generosity and hope that they eventually realize the financial contribution
adopted animals make toward their bottom line, and that they once again donate. The torn bags of food now are thrown away and wasted.
