What detergents you say?
We offer 5 types of shampoo bases to which other botanicals, herbs, oils or essential oils are blended. All of our shampoos can also be used as an all over body wash, hand wash, general purpose cleanser, shampoo or
doggy bath. Horses love it too! Each is very mild and gentle.
Organic Castile~ This is the mildest castile formula that you could imagine...pure and simple. Contains: Saponified oils of
Coconut, Olive and Jojoba, Aloe Vera, Glycerin, Rosemary Extract. Since this is an all natural product, the color may vary from batch to batch.
Goat Milk~Castor Oil is included for added versitality and to increase lather! Please keep in mind this is a natural product, and doesn't contain the chemical surfactants that you're so used to, so it won't leave any film or build up on your hair. When switching to all natural
shampoos you might be surprised to find how dry and lifeless your real hair feels, but don't dispair, with time your hair will regain it's natural health, shine & vitality. This Hair Wash can be used for any type of use, dogs, horses, you, shampoo, body wash....it's all Natural Fresh Handmade Goat Milk Soap! Rosemary Soap ~ Very intense aroma, Rosemary essential oil and crushed Rosemary accent this robust soap. Rosemary essential oil known as an analgesic, antidepressant, antiseptic, and astringent. Also known for its ability to clear the head and aid memory, ease tired muscles, circulatory problems and to help
stimulate blood circulation to the scalp (for hair growth). Also makes a delightful full body bar. Ingredients: saponified Castor, Palm kernel, and Palm oils with Dshea butter, Rosemary essential oil, and crushed Rosemary. Shikakai (organic) Acacia Concinna ~ This will take some getting used to but can have excellent results as part of a non "shampoo" wash. Shikakai is excellent for long hair or to help promote beautiful growth and to strengthen hair roots while removing accumulated dandruff when used regularly on your hair and scalp. This herb is abrasive, for best results massage gently, do not rub, into hair. The deep pentrating effect will feed your hair and roots.
With regular use you'll notice and enjoy the increased bounce, shine & manageability of your hair. You don't want to get this herb into your eyes, it WILL BURN, so be careful or rinse with water. This ancient Indian herb has been used as a natural Rinse & Hair Wash for centuries. Can be used several ways, this is one way that we use it for ourselves or for animals with coat conditions:
Rosemary Soap ( approx 4.00 oz bar ) - $8.95
Mix 2 heaping tablespoon or more, depending on hair length, of Shikakai powder with 2 heaping tablespoons on Amalaki powder in about 8oz. of very hot water. Stir the mixture until well blended into a paste, then let sit 15 minutes or until it reaches a comfortable temperature for you. Then thoroughly saturate your hair and apply the Shikakai paste to your hair. Run your fingers gently, do not rub, through your hair and rinse thoroughly at the end of your shower, or give yourself a highly diluted Apple Cider Vinegar rinse, there is nothing like it
to restore the natural pH balance to your hair.
Shikakai offers excellent cleansing properties but sometimes I'll use a regular natural Hair Wash such as Castile or Goat Milk, or African Black soap bar every few weeks between the weekly Shikakai rinse & wash. Experiment and see what works for you. The Amalaki is conditioning, but a Coconut or other oil treatment as a pre wash really gives great results.

Happy Tails humans have very dirty work clothes with tons of stains from dogs, horses, goats, chickens, mud grease and things you can't begin to imagine, we've had many opportunities to test these little Soap Nuts. We hope you'll be as amazed as we are, our nasty work clothes come out cleaner than any of the other very expensive detergents that we've used, they do feel softer and look better. Soap Nuts are a real money saver, and couldn't we all use that?
How to use
Laundry: Put a few nuts (4-6) into the included cotton muslin sack. Tie a knot and drop it into your washer, remove the bag to air dry after the wash & rinse cycle are complete. You'll be surprised how soft and clean your clothes are without having to use softeners or harsh detergents. There will be little or no bubbles during the wash cycle, and there may be a slight natural, clean aroma. Reuse Soap Nuts up to 5 times in hot water and possibly twice that many times in cold
water. You'll need to replace the Soap Nuts when they become mushy, grayish and don't feel slippery. Simply toss the old ones into the compost returning them to the earth.
Stains: Soak Soap Nuts & bag in cold water, blot stains until removed then wash normally
Really dirty clothes: Use more nuts or smaller loads in your machine so there is more agitation room.
Hand wash: Soak a few nuts in hot water, then and add the Soap Nut Tea to your hand wash.
Whites clothes: Separate colors and sun dry when possible.
Sparkling windows: Fill spray bottle with 1 part Soap Nut liquid, 12 parts water, a little white vinegar & shake well. Spray windows & wipe clean with newspaper or paper towel.
Jewelry: Soak metals & stones in a small amount of Soap Nut Liquid for a few minutes. Use a soft brush to gently loosen grim & dirt, then rinse with cool water and polish with a soft, dry cloth.
Plants & Pests: Almost the same as for windows, but a little Neem Oil to repel pests, spray leaves thoroughly and allow to air dry.
Liquid Soap: Soak 1 cup Soap Nuts in 4 cups of water, soak overnight and then toss into your blender, strain and put into bottle. Keep in the fridge if you plan on keeping soap longer than 2 weeks add essential oils or Vitamin E to prevent bacteria growth. If it's inconvenient to wait overnight, just simmer the nuts on the stove at medium heat for about 10 minutes, cover and allow to cool, mash nuts, strain and bottle, add a few drops of essential oils of your preference such as Tea Tree, Sweet Orange, Lemon,
Lavender or Eucalyptus after the mixture has cooled. If the mixture boils over on the stove, your clean up will be amazing and your stove will shine!
Aritha Hair Tea: Add 1 tablespoon or more of Aritha powder to 1 cup of boiling water. Cover and steep for 10 minutes. Strain the tea and allow to cool to a comfortable temperature and use as a natural wash or rinse. Aritha is often combined with other Ayurvedic herbs such as Amalaki, Shikakai, Neem or Hibiscus. Aritha Hair Paste: The length of hair or coat will determine the amount of Aritha powder you need. Start with mixing 1 or more tablespoons of powder with enough water to create a thick paste. Gently massage the paste into your hair and scalp, or your animal's coat using your finger tips. Leave paste on a few minutes then rinse or wash thoroughly. Can also be combined with other herbs. Avoid contact with eyes and mouth.

Which oils might be appropriate for your hair?

A small amount of Amalaki can be applied to the hair and scalp after washing or gently massaged into the hair and scalp as a pre wash conditioner. Bringraj Oil Is called the King of Herbs when infused with Sesame seed oil. Has been used to help promote hair growth, to prevent premature balding, helps with sun damaged and color treated hair. Massage gentley into the scalp as a pre wash.
Castor oil Is believed to promote hair growth, fight dryness, dandruff and prevent greying. The down side to this high viscosity oil is that it's very sticky and you may not feel comfortable going out in public looking like your soaked your head in an oil slick! It is great to use as a heavy conditioner, but not applied after a wash, unless you don't mind the well oiled look.
Coconut oil Is considered a cooling oil used for the entire length of the hair, the scalp, for your body, in cooking, smoothies and other body care products. You can also make great herbal infusions using this oil and benefit from the herbal properties and penetration. Oiling prevents protein loss from hair during washing. Coconut oil works great as a pre wash conditioner or a tiny amount applied after the wash. For best conditioning
apply liberal amounts to dry or spritzed hair, braid the hair and allow to soak in for several hours or overnight.
Hibiscus This delicious, beautifully colored plant's leaves, flowers can be crushed and blended with hot water and applied with other oils as a conditioner.
Neem This Ayurvedic medicinal oil helps fight hair loss, controls dandruff and other scalp conditions, prevents premature greying and is an excellent natural pesticide. A small amount can be so beneficial for almost any scalp or skin condition.
Sesame seed Is considered a neutral warming oil, commonly used in cooking and hair treatments. Sesame is generally used as a pre wash conditioner, rather than as a leave in conditioner, since the aroma is more potent than Coconut oil.
"Will Ayurvedic herbs darken or color my hair?"
That is a good question. While some people might be looking for an alternative to harsh, synthetic dyes and their harmful effects, other folks may not be interested in having any highlight or color changes to their hair. Generally, most people do not experience hair darkening when using Ayurvedic or other herbs.
Some of the factors that increase your probability of darkening your hair with herbs are how long you leave the herbs on your hair and if the herbs are boiled or steeped for a long time before application. People with light colored
